I saw somewhere a post about RPG layout, specifically the actual maps. It's an age-old issue of having to flip back and forth between the map and the descriptions on that map.

I look at the one-page dungeons as a good way to handle that issue until someone recommended Weird Discoveries for Numenera.

In Weird Discoveries, it appears that each map is two pages wide (the book is open and it lays flat on the table) with descriptions surrounding the map in the middle of the spread.

From my experience as a training content developer, the arrows to different locations are hard to read. That is why the old dungeons had numbered rooms in the first place.

When I begin creating content for my writing stint, I'm going to try a two-page spread type of layout with indicators instead of arrows. To save time, I'll start with one of Dyson's available designs and go from there.

Time for a Change

After working so many exhausting hours and looking forward to a few more weeks of it, I have decided that I need a change.

I am good at what I do, but it is only fun to me when others say Wow, I could never do that. Unfortunately, I try doing things that I am not good at. There is no voice in the back of my head that says beforehand NEW IS GREAT, BUT YOU SHOULD ASK SOMEONE FOR HELP BEFORE IT ALL GOES SOUTH

I regret my epic failures for how it affects others.

So here is what I am going to do:

  • I am going to do fun things with board games and RPGs.
  • I'm going to do an anchor podcast about Old Games in New Frames. (Not just making everything into a Black Hack game, but making Swords & Wizardry stuff and 5e material.)
  • I'm going to finish the project my son and I started in making his boardgame.

Sure, I'm scared as all get out that this will be yet another grand start that will end in failure and unfinished projects. But I have to do something. The current state of things is way too frustrating.

Two Week Stint

I am hopeful for the next weekend coming up: I begin a two-week writing stint.

It's not full-time, sadly, but I will have every evening and weekend free to finish at least three writing projects.

Two of them are for classes I'm teaching (religious subject matter). They are set and will not change, especially as I am teaching one in August, and co-teaching another in September through December.

The third is gaming related and less certain. The new hotness is making 4C (FASERIP Clone) into something like The Black Hack. The old hotness is for a game I will be running this fall - finishing the Samoora Sea setting. (5E or Black Hack).

Like my last writing stint, I will post about my progress frequently on the gaming project.

If you are interested in the other two projects, those will be in a separate collection.
